Title: Deputy Reporter (Stenographer) for the New York State Assembly Deadline: Until Filled Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 Agency/Dept.: Assembly Official Reporter’s Office

This full-time position is responsible for taking the verbatim stenographic record of the NYS Assembly legislative session and other official meetings as needed. Duties involve taking shorthand notes on a shorthand machine using computer-aided transcription software (Case Catalyst). Stenographers proofread and check transcribed materials. The employee reports directly to the Official Reporter. During the session time frame (January-June), work hours could be more than 40 per week. Annual salary commensurate with experience and includes the NYS public employee benefits package of paid time off, medical, dental and life insurance, state pension, and eligibility for the federal Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years of experience working in the court reporting field (i.e. depositions, hearings, court proceedings, etc.)
  • Proof of graduation from an approved accredited court reporting school
  • References required
