Empowering the Future of Court Reporting Excellence

The Stenograph Milton H. Wright Memorial Scholarship is offered through the National Court Reporters Foundation and honors the memory of Stenograph’s founder. Court reporting students in formal court reporting programs are encouraged to apply for the merit-based award, which is worth up to $5,000 in tuition and will include use of a student writer and software.

Eligibility criteria

Students must meet the eligibility requirements and submit the completed documentation listed below to qualify for the scholarship. Notification of the Stenograph MHW Memorial Scholarship will be sent to all court reporting schools registered with NCRA. Stenograph will also market this scholarship through its network.

  • Be a current NCRA student member.
  • Be enrolled in a court reporting program.
  • If in a judicial court reporting program, must have passed at least one of the program’s Q & A tests at a minimum of 90 wpm and higher.
  • Have a grade point average of at least a 3.5 overall, based on a 4.0 standard or equivalent.
  • Possess all the qualities exemplified by a professional court reporter, including professional attitude, demeanor, dress, and motivation, as confirmed in a separate letter of recommendation.

How to apply

The following documents are required to be submitted for application:

  • Speed Verification Form (page 3 of the application form below)
  • A copy of the student's most recent transcript
  • A double-spaced essay of 350-425 words on the topic: Discuss how advancements in technology have enhanced the role of stenographic court reporters in ensuring the accuracy of legal transcripts. Highlight specific tools or software that have made a significant impact and how these complement court reporters’ and CART captioners’ stenographic skills. (Your full name must appear on all essay pages.)
